Rose Week at Sudeley

Rose Week 2008

Rose week 08 was timed just perfectly for visitors to enjoy the full glory of the magnificent roses at Sudeley.

Grown by organic methods, there were more than 800 modern and old roses on show, as well as herbaceous and annual plants, combined in a decadent display.

During Rose Week hundreds of garden lovers took the opportunity to discover more about the historic castle's diverse and fascinating gardens via an Historic Garden Tour, which were offered daily. New for the 2008 season, the tours give a fascinating insight into the history that has shaped Sudeley's magnificent gardens and highlights the mass of variety used in the planting.

As well as the Queens Garden, Sudeley is also home to the intricate Elizabethan-style Knot Garden, The Mulberry Garden featuring a grove of Mulberry trees planted in 1865 and the aptly-named White Garden full of white flowers.

There is also The Victorian Kitchen Garden containing rare and endangered plants, The Tithe Barn Garden growing in the ruined shell of a medieval tithe barn with a Koi Carp-stocked canal running alongside, and the romantically named Secret Garden which has more than 1,000 tulips in purple, lavender, white and pink hidden away behind ancient walls.

Garden Tours are available throughout the season on Mondays and Fridays at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Tours can be booked at the Visitor Centre on arrival or pre-booked via the website. Group Tours by arrangement.
